The food is excellent. The professors are spectacular people. But the students... not so kind.
If you're child is thinking about attending college, make sure you have a little talk with them about drugs and alcohol abuse and why it's wrong before you send them off into college life. Because I've seen people's once "innocent angels" turn into 18 year old alcoholics who do nothing but brag about getting carried away by an ambulance to the hospital for taking too many shots and that the $500 in fines they paid was "the best $500 they ever spent".
Ok place depending on what your niche is. To say that it's a party school would be an understatement. I see underaged drunks get busted every night. The dorms are very loud especially on Thursday, Friday, and Saturday nights. Depending on which dorm you're in, you may not be able to get much sleep due to loudness. Campus Safety doesn't always do anything about it. I once had to call them 3 times in one night for the same room before they showed up and asked them to stop. 90% of the time if you approach the rooms yourself in ask them NICELY to keep it down then they will do so.
Wish I could give it zero stars. Dr Feres ruined my education. Not only was she the hardest professor I had, but she also will only pass guys that she has sex with in her office. She gave my ex boyfriend adderall. Dr feres teaches more outside of her classroom then inside.
This is the 4th college I've attended. The community is at first, the most welcoming I've ever seen. There's students of all different backgrounds just like any other college. But take a look at the student staff and you will see that they're all white. I've met blacks and hispanics and asians who applied for student jobs and did not get it despite having unmatched experience and knowledge of the field (I was a reference for one of them because I worked with him). So yes, the student culture is diverse but the professional level, not so diverse.
Keene State is a great value. Located on a truly beautiful campus, it offers an abundance of natural beauty. The majority of students are extremely kind and friendly. People here are down to earth and real. I will consider attending Keene State if I decide to pursue a Bachelor's Degree in the future.
There is a lot of drugs around the campus (as any college). There are parties left and right every night. Most of the students are here to do just that. If your child isn't the party type then they will probably not fit in well here. A lot of sex, a lot of drinking, and a lot of noise in some of the dorms. The Living Learning Commons (LLC) which is where most of the freshman get put into, is the easiest one to study in. I live in Bushnell dorm (one of the most expensive dorms), and it's virtually impossible to focus on homework because it's always too loud. The library is open but not 24/7. If you're like me and work on homework better at night, then you're gonna be working on most if not all of your homework in your dorm.
When you first come in as a new student, you will be required to take part in an orientation session which lasts 4 days. These go all day long and if you don't attend one event, they temporarily kick you out of college until the first day of classes. This is 4 days of activities and yes, it's fun. But it's also overdone. The first events are usually around 9am and then the last events end at around 5 or 6pm. This gives you less time to get settled into your dorm. I remember I had to miss the first 2 homework assignments for my classes because I was spending my study time trying to put everything away in my dorm and get everything settled in. On the 2nd day of classes, I finally got settled in to make this place more like home for me.
You'll hear a lot that it's a huge party school and some say it's a rumor. That's not a rumor. That's a fact. There's so much partying that they should change the eyes in the owl in the logo in a way that makes him look really drunk.
When I first arrived into my dorm (which I paid $4,800 to live in for the semester), it was not very clean. The toilet was moldy, and the shower also had signs of mold in it.
My sister is thinking of attending this school but we are no longer interested. The person that they met with in admissions was VERY rude to her and they were putting my sister down. They did not say anything nice about my sisters artwork nor toward the fact that we have published a poetry book (which is a huge accomplishment, thank you very much) The admisisons counselor was making fun of my sister's learning challenge and was making my sister feel very small compared to this woman's personality i.e. basically saying I'm better than you and what do YOU have to show for it. STAY AWAY FROM THIS SCHOOL. We thought this school was a good choice for my sister but after this experience, forget it. I will be calling Keene and I will complain about this incident. How dare this woman put my sister down and make fun of her. how DARE she. Do not even bother with this school. If they are going to treat potential students as though they are meaningless pieces of trash, do not even bother visiting the campus. I am absolutely horrified that this happened. Keene should be aware of how rude and idiotic their admisisons staff representatives are. Do I honestly have to leave even a star? I wouldn't even give this school ONE star i WILL call this school and I WILL let them know how inhuman this person was toward a potential student. What a great way to decrease your income, Keene. Hire rude obnoxious little twits to work with potential students. I am appalled. MY SISTER WILL NOT BE ATTENDING THIS SCHOOL.
Walking to the supermarket there are cars full of drunk kids that will fly by and they'll poke their heads out the window and say something really stupid to you. Last night I got one that slowed down and said "I like butt-(insert F-bomb here)ing". So *wise* lol.
